AASTMT Delegation Visits Dar es Salaam Port and Bandari College to Strengthen Maritime Cooperation
A delegation from the **Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), Egypt**, led by its President **Prof. Ismail Abdelghafal Ismail**, visited the **Dar es Salaam Port** and **Bandari College Dar es Salaam (BCD)** as part of its official visit to Tanzania following an invitation from the **Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA)**.
The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and explore areas of mutual interest in maritime education, professional development, research, and capacity building within the port and transport sectors.

During the visit to Bandari College Dar es Salaam, the delegation was warmly received by the **Principal of Bandari College, Dr. Lufunyo Hussein**, who welcomed the guests and provided an overview of the College’s mandate, operations, training programmes, and strategic development plans.
The delegation had the opportunity to tour various facilities within the College, including training areas and other learning resources, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the institution’s capacity in delivering professional maritime, logistics, and port-related training programmes. The visit was also accompanied by strategic discussions with the College Management on potential areas of cooperation and knowledge exchange.
The engagement between TPA, through Bandari College Dar es Salaam, and AASTMT is aimed at establishing a framework for long-term collaboration in key areas including **applied research, professional consultancy services, technical skills development, and practical training programmes** for TPA employees, maritime sector stakeholders, and Bandari College instructors.
The proposed partnership will support the exchange of knowledge and expertise, promote the adoption of international best practices, and enhance the capacity of professionals involved in port operations, maritime transport, logistics, and related fields.
Through this strategic cooperation, TPA and Bandari College continue to advance their commitment to developing a highly skilled workforce capable of responding to the evolving demands of the global maritime industry. The collaboration with AASTMT, one of the leading maritime training institutions in the region, represents an important step towards strengthening Tanzania’s maritime education, research, and innovation capacity.
The partnership is expected to contribute significantly to improving operational efficiency, promoting sector-based research solutions, and supporting the continued transformation of Tanzania’s ports and maritime transport industry.
