Bandari College Conducts a Two-Day Research Seminar to Strengthen Applied Research and Innovation
Bandari College Dar es Salaam (BCD) successfully conducted a two-day Research Seminar on 16th and 17th February 2026, bringing together its academic staff and renowned external research experts in a collaborative initiative aimed at strengthening the College's research capacity and advancing its institutional research agenda.
The seminar, held at the College campus in Dar es Salaam, served as an important platform for scholarly engagement, knowledge sharing, and peer review. It reaffirmed Bandari College's commitment to promoting a vibrant research culture that supports evidence-based decision-making and contributes to the sustainable development of Tanzania's maritime, port, transport, and logistics sectors.
The event was officially inaugurated by Mr. Paul Humbi, Acting Principal of Bandari College, who encouraged participants to engage actively throughout the seminar and maximize the opportunity to refine their research projects through constructive dialogue, critical analysis, and collaborative learning. In his opening remarks, he emphasized that quality research is fundamental to institutional excellence, innovation, and the development of practical solutions that address the evolving challenges facing the maritime industry.
The primary objective of the seminar was to enhance the quality, relevance, and academic rigor of three newly developed research proposals and two completed research reports. Through structured presentations, technical discussions, and comprehensive peer review sessions, participants received valuable feedback that will strengthen the methodological soundness, analytical depth, and practical relevance of their research outputs. The discussions also ensured that the research projects remain aligned with current national priorities and emerging trends within the maritime, port, logistics, and transport sectors.
A key feature of the seminar was the active participation of distinguished external discussants whose expertise significantly enriched the deliberations. The College was honoured to host Dr. Mesia Ilomo and Dr. Cosmas Masanja from the University of Dar es Salaam Business School (UDBS), together with Dr. Benitha Myamba from the National Institute of Technology (NIT). Their extensive academic experience, critical evaluations, and professional guidance provided invaluable insights that strengthened the quality of the research proposals and reports while offering participants practical recommendations for further improvement.
The seminar also fostered interdisciplinary collaboration and encouraged the exchange of innovative ideas among researchers. Participants explored emerging issues affecting the maritime and logistics industries, discussed contemporary research methodologies, and identified opportunities for future collaborative research aimed at addressing national and regional development challenges.
